Shape & Colour Exploration
Task 1 - Line Drawing

I began with building off of some of the previous line drawings to use as my base for this exploration. These images depict my process going from rough sketch to final line drawing  using different weights to depict a light source.
Task 2 - Tonal Mapping
I took my final line drawing and used 3 colours to map out the different tones. Using my line weights as a guide, I added further reference of a light source by my specific placement of colour. I imagined my light source coming from the upper right side and cascading downwards across the leaves.

Task 3 - Shape & Colour
3 a.
I chose 3 interesting textural images that matched the 3 colour tones I had explored in the previous task. I wanted the photographs to be of all different subjects and elements to explore combining contrasting shapes and compositions. These will become my clipping masks for task b.
3 b.
These 3 images illustrate my process of creating clipping masks from the tonal map I created in task 2. I did the final image in stages, first starting with the lighter tone and
outlining overtop of the shapes. I then positioned the texture photographs overtop and played with rotation and scale to create more depth. I repeated the same technique for the 2 other tones. In the end, I really enjoy the idea and look of the magazine type cut-out collage but I feel like the image is too busy. I could possibly fix this by choosing a less busy mid tone so there's some separation between the dark and light tones.
3. c
For the final task, I chose to focus on one leaf of the plant to have a less detailed and overly busy result. I also chose new swatch images and played with both pinks and blues to move away from using the conventional green colours. Exploring further, my end result was a composition of two leaves that used both the pink and blue swatches in combination with one another. Overall, I am satisfied with the final image, I think I was able to simplify the composition further and make it more cohesive. I believe this is due to me focusing on just two leaves and utilizing images that were not as conflicting and busy. It still maintains the collaged look, but it is not as cluttered as the all green version.
