Brief 1: Add Value - Rubber band

Add Value

I decided to chose an object that we frequently use, and expect to be in a drawer around the house gathering dust until that great date we need to use it. Its a product we need rather than something we want, but it is still not a necessity. I have combined this with a reason for being, by associating it with a company, so that the elastic band means something to people. The Anti Bullying Alliance is a coalition of organisations working together to stop bullying and create safe environments. They have a growing network of 400 schools & colleges across the UK. They provide advice in relation to all forms of bullying. The elastic band is something you wear to show you support the cause. I thought of this of the fact that when you flick an elastic band onto the skin, it hurts; such a small object like that can hurt you. It’s a symbol that a bully can hurt, but they are just small-minded. Most teenagers first break into social networking with Facebook, therefore this seemed an appropriate platform to use reach out to the priority target audience. Also on Facebook you can request your school to be a part of the #WFB movement and order the elastic bands to be sent to your school. There will also be an Instagram page where people can upload pictures, and here we will use celebrity endorsements, especially young celebrities so that their audience can know them which means they will listen to them.  The youtube channel will be a chance for people to see what we have been doing around the schools and the reaction we have received. I also wish to encourage the people we meet to hold up statements on a board of experiences they’ve had with bullying, no more matter how small or big, as there are some things people do where they really do not realise it can be counted as a bullying act. The symbolism from such a small object, it can grow into a message for all schools which is an important message, through an object we once looked at very differently.
