To announce the birth or our son, Roan, I illustrated his own card. I wanted something fun and childlike, so I came up with a band of animals on their way to announce the birth to everyone. It had to be festive and dressed them up with hats and bows but still tried to keep it simple and not overdo it. To close the envelope I also illustrated a sticker, featuring our dog Noah in the same style.
I tried to use only five colours to keep it simple but not too minimal. And to keep all the animals cohesive even though they are of course different from each other.
The typography is kept simple so it fits with the rest of the card. Including four out of the five colours. I played a bit with keeping it one colour or just the two blue's, but decided against that because I wanted to stay away from the typical 'boy has to be blue'.
The process of how I made the card; starting with a pencil sketch. After that I colour the big shapes and add details. Some shadowing to make it less flat and finally a preset to make the colours pop.
