In 2010, I set up a community group in East London to transform an unused, unloved part of the neighbourhood into a beautiful wildflower meadow for everyone to enjoy.

In a neighbourhood that's a bit suspicious of anything new, the project to be backed up by a friendly, accessible brand. It also had to appeal to parents and kids, as they were the group most likely to have the time and enthusiasm to get involved. So working with Art Director Simon Nicholls, I created a simple look-and-feel, and put together a set of comms material.

The meadow project immediately caught the attention of the neighbourhood - who got stuck in supporting it. A year later, it had attracted funding from Big Lottery. And when the team behind London 2012 heard about it, they loved it so much they offered to fund the project too. It's also received awards from the RSPB, Transport for London and the Royal Horticultural Society.

As part of a community picnic and activity day, we created 'wildflower safari' packs. Each one taught kids how to spot bugs and flowers on the meadow and came with a simple pair of DIY paper binoculars.
