"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" Book Cover
For this project I was assigned to make 3 different book covers for a book. I was asked to make typography, handmade and my choice type of covers. For my covers I wanted to portray a more modern Alice and show the fun and colorful side to the book. I was successful in doing this through the use of colors, fonts and design.
I really like how this one turned out! I think it is fun and playful. It took a lot of trial and error when it comes to picking out the colors. I look through a lot of different color swatches and color ideas on adobe colors and finally was happy with the final colors. I also messed around a lot with the fonts so that way it was lined up perfectly and one another. I think the mix of colors and the playfulness of the font add everything together and make the design look clean and unified.
This one was really tricky to think of different ideas and what I can do. Sometimes I feel like I lack the creative ability to make something from scratch. I think I learned a lot from reading the book we are assigned and that sometimes you have to come up with ideas and just sit on it and think. I know this was the case when coming up with my handmade cover. It took a lot of thinking of ideas and then finally putting one into place. I really like that I was able to get outside of my normal bubble with this one and do some sketching combined with photoshop.
The designer's choice was tricky because there are so many different things you can do to make a book cover. You can create something by hand or on adobe software or try something completely new. Something I really enjoy doing is making people, and I might not be the best at it but find it fun and lets me be more creative. For this, I wanted to portray a more modern side to Alice with shorter hair and have it look like she is taking a polaroid in Wonderland. I think doing this makes the book look very interesting and something the target audience would be excited to read.
