Old Town Revitalization

The goal was to create a visual language that pays homage to the past, celebrates the unique history, and promotes diversity and innovation. I created a vibrant color palette to pay homage to the native cultures that originally lived in the area and to represent a lively
inviting community. The green and blue colors specifically represent the meaning of “mahkato” which translated to blue-green earth. The
flower symbol is a visual representation of different people coming together to learn about each other, historical events, and to share different cultures and ideas. By learning together we can cultivate a community that understands the past, works to heal, and grow.
The final solution shows each aspect of the idea coordinated with a color. The flower petals were used to create color fields or picture frames. The petals also helped to avoid right angles and straight lines. This gives the overall look a more friendly appearance. The choice of vibrant colors pairs well with both duotone and full color photos. When deciding which pictures to
use I looked for ones that depicted community, people together, or any one that went with any of my core words. This helped
to visually convey the previously described goals.
