'Interiors'
Initial research responding to the 'Interiors' title where I looked into playing with size and 'rehearsed' or staged scenes. I looked into artist Tatsuya Tanaka, who plays with normal sized mundane objects (e.g. a keyboard) and places miniature characters around them.
10 minute pencil sketch of my art classroom practicing perspective and observational drawing.
Following my research into rehearsed scenes, I arranged a photoshoot using Playmobil figures in various murder scenes and scenarios - there was something about the juxtaposition of innocent children's toys and gruesome fake blood that I found comical and dark.
One photograph of a number of staged playmobil murder scenes.
Acrylic painting using one of the playmobil scenes as reference.
Acrylic painting from a photo from the Playmobil shoot. I really enjoyed the glistening effect the fake blood created on camera, and attempted to capture it in painting with white gouache.
Sketch of crumbling staircase.
Following the interest in murder scenes and destruction, I took earlier observational sketches and recreated them in various states of decay.
These two sketches demonstrate the process of changing the opacity and layering to work towards a final image. Later in the project my aim was to "fix" or "destroy" infamous paintings - for example, to remake and tidy Tracey Emin's 'My Bed'.
