The aim of this project was to redesign the book The Industrialized Traveller by Wolfgang Schivelbusch, by turning it into a visual book. The peculiarity of this text is that it focuses on how technical innovations of the nineteenth-century have brought about changes in the psychology, customs and habits of the population of that time, so it was decided to enhance this aspect. In particular, what emerges while reading is that the experience of travel by train for the passengers was something extremely destabilizing and shocking. This project intends to represent the act of vision from the perspective of a nineteenth-century’s person who for the first time faces a train journey, trying to convey the same fears and the same difficulty in focusing on a point of the panorama. Therefore it was tried to convey these psychological suggestions through pinhole photography, which generates blurred images with poorly defined outlines, making the subjects almost difficult to recognise.
