The novel is set in a post-apocalyptic future, where a lucky group of people live in a closed, perfectly engineered city, protected from outside influence. The rest of the people survive outside the city, dying from the effects of some kind of catastrophe.
The main character, a girl from the city, one day finds herself strangely outside her city.
