Fast Pedestrians Passing Slow Pedestrians

Designers are often quick to impose ideas and ‘solutions’ that lack depth or insight. The result? Mere surface decoration that is inauthentic to the context. It is important to go beyond the surface; first to find a unique perspective and then to find the appropriate form to communicate it.

In this project, it was my job to observe a space, find something that happens in the space and make that phenomena visible. I observed Oxford Circus and found a pattern in the movement of crowds. People move within crowds in various different ways and it is forever changing. I observed fast walkers moving around slow walkers and recognized that this happens quite often. I created a visual diagram to show this concept in the space. My design will live on the sidewalk so pedestrians can visually see the concept.
