Large Scale Illustration: Dress Up Bolts Comic

Dress Up Bolts is a company focusing on high quality titanium hardware for the automotive industry. I was commissioned to create an 8 foot by 3 foot art piece for their office. I was given full creative freedom to make anything I wanted, and I decided I wanted to make an anime/comic style art piece involving multiple panels that told a story about dress up bolts!
The first thing I did was create a story board. I wanted a visual to show the progression of a guy working on his car in his garage installing the Dress Up Bolts hardware. I chose to make the comic black and white with the hardware a color choice Dress Up Bolts offers, which is gold. That way the Dress Up Bolts hardware is the main focus, and the black and white gives a look and feel of a printed out comic book.
After lots of editing and tweaking, the final product is done! Each panel was hand drawn using the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, and then brought into Illustrator for the text and layout. The black dots around the edge represent the mounting points for hardware when the printed piece is hung up on the wall.
Time for Install! Since it was going in a heavily lit area from natural light, the art was printed on matte banner paper to both reduce glare and handle high UV exposure. Then it was sealed to wood to increase rigidity.
The piece was then mounted using Dress Up Bolts' hardware, the very hardware shown in the art piece!
The 8' X 3' piece is officially complete! You can really understand the scale with Seth from Dress Up Bolts standing next to it. Needless to say he was extremely happy with the end result!
