When I was visiting Lisbon for the first time, my eyes are mostly directed at numerous kinds of azulejos(tile arts) in surfaces of the architecture throughout the city.
The tile designs consist of geometric shapes and floral motif patterns, religious symbols and such. And I sensed that they are what makes Lisbon truly unique among other capitals in Europe that connect Portuguese tradition and modern culture.
Driven by their charm, I created a series of hand-drawn azulejo designs as my interpretation. (16 designs in 4 colours)
ポルトガルの首都リスボンを始めて訪れた際、無意識に私の視線が向けられていたもの、それはあらゆる建築物の壁面に古くから残されているアズレージョ（タイルアート）でした。
無限とも思えるほどに多く存在するタイルのデザインは、幾何学模様、草花をモチーフとしたパターンから、宗教的な絵画など、様々な要素にて構成されています。ポルトガルの著しい経済発展の中で開花するモダン文化と、伝統文化を橋渡しするように存在するリスボンのアズレージョは、他国の首都には見られない独特の魅力を町並みに追加しているように思いました。
そんな素敵でカラフルなアズレージョに感化され、私自身の解釈による手描きのアズレージョパターンを制作しました。（16種類・4色展開）
