Palette Purge Paintings
After I'm done with a watercolor project, I sometimes have excess paint left over on my palette. To make sure no precious pigment goes to waste (before setting my palette for my next project), I try to use up all of what is left without adding any more. All these paintings are automatic-stream-of-consciousness. I keep using the leftover pigments until there is nothing left to use. It's a great challenge to see how far you can stretch the leftovers to create a whole new image. This challenge not only enforces less waste in the studio, but also forces me into child-like play and experimentation with my materials-- which is what I love this challenge most!
