Yaşamanın, ritim ögelerini de beraberinde getirdiği bir gerçekliği baz alarak. Ritim konusuna en temel anlamıyla “nefes” olarak bakıyorum. Herkes, bir ritme göre nefes alıp dolayısıyla hem bireysel hem de toplumsal alanda bir ritim içerisinde hareket etmekle birlikte, bahsi geçen nefes ritminin ortak olduğu pek çok farklı eylem de yaratıyor. İnsanın iç dünyasının yansıması olarak sanat; ve sanatta da ortak nefes almanın yansıması olarak; ortak üretim fikrini değerlendiriyorum.
Based on the reality that living brings along elements of rhythm, I look at rhythm in its most basic sense as "breath." Everyone breathes according to a rhythm, thus moving within a rhythm both individually and socially. Furthermore, the shared rhythm of breathing gives rise to various different actions. Art, as a reflection of one's inner world, and in art, reflecting the shared breath, I consider the concept of collaborative creation.
Ritmin en somut haliyle karşımıza çıktığı şeylerden biri de müzik. Aynı müziği dinlerken, aynı müzikte dans ederken, aynı müziğe karışmışken benzer nefesler alabiliyoruz.
Bunun görsel sanatlar alanına aktarımı ise resimde harekete ağırlık veren ve bu şekilde resmin özüne, saf haline ulaşıldığı söylenen action painting ile yapılabilir.
One of the most concrete forms in which rhythm manifests is music. While listening to the same music, dancing to the same music, or becoming one with the same music, we can take similar breaths.
The translation of this to the realm of visual arts can be achieved through action painting, which emphasizes movement in painting and is said to reach the essence, the pure state of the artwork.
Eğer aynı müziği dinleyen kişiler benzer nefes ritimleri ile dans edebiliyorsa, aynı şarkıyı dinleyerek çizim yapan sanatçılar da benzer el hareketleri gösterecek, dahası müziği yapan kişiyle benzer duygulanımları, benzer bedensel dışavurumları göstereceklerdir. Müzik aletleri üzerinde sesler çıkarmak için belli bir ritme göre hareket eden eller, o müziği dinlerken resim yapan ellerle aynı şekilde hareket etmiş olacak ve aynı ritme kendini bırakan bedenler birbirinden ayrı ancak ortak iki sanat eseri ortaya çıkaracaktır.
If individuals listening to the same music can dance with similar breath rhythms, artists drawing while listening to the same song will also exhibit similar hand movements. Moreover, they will display similar emotions and bodily expressions as the person creating the music. Hands that move to a certain rhythm to produce sounds on musical instruments will move in the same way as the hands creating art while listening to the music, and bodies surrendering to the same rhythm will result in two distinct but collaborative artworks.
Ben de bu fikirlerden yola çıkarak; 2021 Aralık ayında müzikle uğraşan arkadaşıma bir müziği dinlediğimde hissetmek istediğim birkaç duygudan bahsettim. Bu duygulanımlar; “açık/geniş, yer yer heyecanlı, memnun, buruk bir memnuniyet” şeklindeydi. Aynı ay içerisinde Baran bu duyguların hissedilmesini sağlayan bir şarkı ortaya koydu. Şarkının adı “Orpheus” oldu.
Taking inspiration from these ideas, in December 2021, I shared with my friend who is involved with music a few emotions I wanted to feel when listening to a song. These emotions were characterized as "open/wide, occasionally excited, content, with a bittersweet satisfaction." Within the same month, Baran created a song that embodied these emotions. The song was titled "Orpheus."
Yapılan bu şarkıyı 2mx2m tuval bezi üzerine action painting yaparak çalıştım. Ve çalışmalarım Tuğçe Şenbaş tarafından kayda alındı. Kayıtların sonucunda da müzikten yola çıkarak resmin çizildiğini gösteren bir video hazırladım.
Sanatın her dalının şüphesiz ki birbirini etkilediği söylenmiştir. Ancak bu işte ritim konusu üzerinden; bi-fiil müziğin resmini çizme, beş duyudan birine hitap eden soyut ritmi görme duyusuna da hitap edecek şekilde somutlaştırma işi yapılmıştır.
I worked on this song by creating an action painting on a 2mx2m canvas cloth. And my works were recorded by Tuğçe Şenbaş. As a result of the recordings, I prepared a video showing the process of drawing the painting based on the music.
It is undoubtedly said that every branch of art influences each other. However, in this case, through the concept of rhythm, a concrete representation has been created that actively draws the picture of the music, appealing not only to one of the five senses but also translating the abstract rhythm that resonates with one sense into a visual form.
Bu şekilde farklı disiplinler üzerinden çalışmalarını yürüten iki sanatçının, ortak bir iş üzerinde birleşerek aynı nefesi paylaşmalarına, videoyu izleyenlerin de ortak olabileceğini; ve ortaya çıkan eseri görenlerin, işitsel duyuya hitap eden müziğin resim alanına geçmesini de deneyimleyebileceklerini düşünüyorum.
In this manner, two artists conducting their work across different disciplines, coming together on a collaborative project, sharing the same breath, I believe that viewers of the video can also partake in this collaboration. Those who see the resulting artwork can also experience the transition of auditory music into the realm of visual art, as the two artists translate their efforts into a shared creation.
