The Soda Factory is a small skateboard company that is always pushing the limits of skateboard design. Here are two of my favorite projects I was lucky enough to work on for this amazing company.

The “Born to Hula” was a groundbreaking board that set a new standard for technical design and machining in skateboarding. It is a short wheelbase, top mounted, directional speedboard that uses “bacon concave” which allows proper pressing for a board with rocker-concave by creating relief bends along the rail of the board. This particular way of pressing also creates little “nooks” for the riders feet.
Another key feature to this board are the wedges cut into the bottom of the deck. These slots are there to neutralize the additional wedging of the trucks that is created by rocker over the length of the board.
The wedges not only neutralize the trucks angles but also allow for a slightly lower ride for a top mounted board while keeping its full range of control and functionality.

Airotica is a high end line within Soda Factory that specializes in high-end construction and in materials such as carbon fiber, texalium, and exotic woods
Constructed of only 6 maple plys that sandwich a longitudinal poplar stringer, the “Jefferson” fits perfectly in the Airotica line-up. A special mold was machined to press the stringers perfectly into the lower half of the board providing more strength than a traditional 9-ply deck while slightly reducing the weight.
Wheel wells on this board were machined to allow the smooth draping of carbon fiber that adds to the overall strength and integrity to the board. The stringer height in combination with added wheels wells allows for a wide range of wheel clearance which is much desired among riders.
