Afloat in the Ether
In my ongoing series, Echoes from a Future Past, I create airy, rhythmic mindscapes to playfully reflect upon the essence of time and space. I blend my original photographs of nature, architecture and artifacts to portray intermingling realities and allude to infinite possibilities.
I am fascinated by quantum physics, particularly the observer effect theory that posits that observation affects reality. The Surrealists’ ideas of merging remote realities and the image as a pure expression of the mind have fueled my unabashed experimentation. From this perspective, I endeavor to convey a sense of delight in the unknown and limitless possibility.
In 2020, I began extending these works into motion by fusing the composites with audio recordings, video and visual effects. Framed pigment prints are accompanied by an animation viewable via augmented reality.
