Burnout Model Illustrations

Knowing how to tell a story can be half the battle. This was the case here as well.

The client wanted illustrations for his master's thesis that would visualise the burnout model he presented.

Based on his preliminary sketches and descriptions, I set out to create a coherent visualisation – not just in regards to the visual style, but also in terms of its mnemonic power. By associating the various resources with a colour as well as an "objectified idea", the model becomes a story that can be easily presented and is bound to stay in the audience's mind even afterwards.
The complete model: the individual is safe from stress, visualised as meteors that reflect off a force shield powered by the various resources.
In the case of a burnout, this protective shield is gone, and stress will have devastating effects on the individual.
Individual Ressources
Emotional binding – Bridges between various domains.
Interpersonal relationships
Physical resources (immune system, etc.) – just as a turtle has a protective shell, so does your body in some ways
Material assets (wealth, etc.) – a pile of stuff
Spiritual resources – a compass
Cognitive resources – a (brain) tree, growing, changing, flowering
Created using Blender 3D, with the Cycles rendering engine (which posed some problems along the way, especially concerning the particle effects which haven't been implemented yet ...).
