Esquire 100
3D Type Sculpture.
To celebrate its 100th edition, Esquire invited us to give our unique take on their iconic logo masthead for their magazine.
A 3-way collaboration with Esquire and photographer Zhong Lin to create the cover for the centennial issue of Esquire in Singapore, featuring pop music superstar JJ Lin.

Materials Exploration.
Working within the form constraints of the iconic masthead for the magazine, our goal is to maximize its visual effect while maintaining the structure of the original Esquire logo.
Inspired by quartz and titanium to symbolize Esquire's strength and quality to stand the test of time, we recreated the logo as a metallic 3D sculpture to showcase depth, lighting, and texture, giving a pearlescent and iridescent quality to convey the centennial idea.

Process & Development.
Through the use of lights and shadows, materials and reflections, we're able to create something that conveys strength while retaining the soft hand-written structure of the wordmark, piecing up different parts together and positioning them at different depths to exaggerate the reflections and shadows of the metallic sculpture.
We coordinated with the Esquire team to ensure our type treatment synchronizes with the concurrent photo shoot happening in Taiwan art directed by photographer Zhong Lin.

We’ve always loved the Esquire wordmark, which to us is one of the most hardworking magazine mastheads ever. It is certainly iconic and we’re big fans of George Lois covers, so we’re thrilled to be putting our spin on it for the 100th issue.
