Fashion Waste Installation

Using denim as a medium to examine waste in the fashion industry, this collaborative installation challenges the language and forms surrounding fast fashion and consumerism. The vinyl window display borrows visual cues from storefronts and online-shopping pop-ups. Incorporating advertising language but turning it on its head to reveal a darker message. The visual elements of the window appear in the screen-printed denim artifacts displayed inside.

Each piece of denim displayed was repurposed in some way and contained statistics about fashion waste and buying habits. All articles displayed carried a tag telling their story and with a QR code directing the viewer to resources to help their clothes last longer. Visitors of the gallery were encouraged to take home pin-back buttons with various slogans and denim showcased.
