SNEAK: Conception of a stealth game in unity

SNEAK (2018)
Conception and creation of a game in unity

The goal of this work is to create a prototype for a game that takes place in a science fiction environment and deals with innovative approaches to stealth gameplay. The game should be experienced in a 3D world from a third-person perspective. Furthermore, the opponents should be much stronger and more terrifying than the player.

This bachelor thesis started as a third-person shooter, like the Mass Effect series, in its first phase of thought and inspiration. In the course of considering settings and gameplay, stealth mechanics are always have been in focus. Later on, there was tendency towards a science fiction setting with horror elements for the project. Such a setting is excellently suited to the tension that is nearly omnipresent in stealth games. From this point of view, the decision was made to realize a stealth game in a science fiction horror setting, in which the player uses the darkness as an advantage.

The narrow level design should force the player to sneak close to the opponents. This is supposed to be part of the goal of incorporating a certain scary factor into the game. This should also be supported by the design of the opponents on an acoustic and visual level.

The area of responsibility were environmental, level and character design.
