Stalheimskleiva: steep curves into the nature

Stalheimskleiva: steep curves into the nature!

Stalheimskleiva, the 1.5km stretch of road that winds its way up the mountainside from the end of the Nærøydalen valley to the top at Stalheim, is one of Northern Europe's steepest roads and offers some truly stunning views 🤩

The #Stalheimskleiva road runs up a ridge between two cascading waterfalls that can both be seen from the road. To the north, you can see the Sivlefossen waterfall, which has a fall of about 140 metres. To the south, the Stalheimsfossen waterfall with a fall of 126 metres. The steepest gradient is 1 to 5, or 20% 😱, which makes it one of the most steep stretches of road in Northern Europe! 🙌🏻

Also good to know that this incredible road was built by manual labour between 1842 and 1846 in order to improve the post road between Oslo and Bergen, but it’s now closed to the traffic due to some accidents which damages parts of the road. BUT, you can “hike” it😅
