The decision to create logos for the different schools of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute came about because, there was a lack of visual identity for each individual school. Different schools merely identified themselves by their name which was clearly not significant enough as an identity.
The design solution was to take create a visual logo for each school. An abstract approach was taken for each design of the schools because some schools could not be represented by a generic archetypal object such as a book or an apple. Below is a simple explanation for the design of each school:
School of Science: A pentagon shape with circles and lines interconnected inspired from alchemical symbols which was the forefather of chemistry.
