Animal Project: Red-Eyed Tree Frog

Animal Project: Red-Eyed Tree Frog

In this assignment, I was instructed to choose an animal and create four different variations of said animal. The assignment required that I create a realistic drawing, a logo, a storybook illustration, as well as a gestural illustration. I chose the red-eyed tree frog because I have always liked frogs and I thought it would be a good animal to draw and expand on.
Final Four
Displayed above are, in order, the logo, the gestural drawing, the transformation illustration, and the encyclopedia illustration.
Encyclopedia
For the encyclopedia illustration, I had to draw the red-eyed tree frog as realistically as possible. I attempted this by using 6B, 2B, and HB pencils and by tracing the outline of the frog.
Process
In the beginning stages of my final drawing, I did not have much shading or texture. Receiving feedback from my professor allowed me to enhance this drawing by creating deeper shadows and enhancing the texture.
Gesture
For the gestural illustration, I had to quickly create a rendering of the red-eyed tree frog using various mediums to capture the essence of my animal. I chose this gesture as my final illustration because the ink splatters and flow of the ink represent the slimy essence of the frog.
Process
For the gestural drawing, I had to create 20 different images in under 90 minutes allowing 30 seconds for each drawing. Each drawing is supposed to capture the essence of the animal chosen. For my red-eyed tree frog, I decided to try out micron pens and India ink and try to capture the sliminess, quickness, and energy.
Logo
For the corporate logo, I wanted to use gestalt to capture the essence of the red-eyed tree frog in a simple yet impactful manner. I chose this logo because I wanted the black to emphasize the feet and the eyes of the frog because they are the parts that characterize this frog the most. I also believe that the black in the eyes and the feet balance out the logo well.
Process
I created 18 logos using India ink for my logo roughs. I used the ink to outline, highlight, emphasize, and create shadow to create my final logo. I applied the use of gestalt and line to my logos to create variety to figure out which worked best to encapsulate the energy of this frog.
Transformation
I chose my fish/frog transformation as my final choice because I did a good job blending the most prominent part of a fish to the frog. I used micron pens to outline and shade.
Process
I had to create 9 different transformations of my red-eyed tree frog. I traced over the frog and added on my different transformations. I used micron pens to create my final products.
