Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum

Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum
In 2021 New Zealand Government released the refreshed Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum. In consultation with the Ministry of Education, we created a campaign to promote awareness and encourage feedback for the proposed curriculum refresh. As part of my Art Direction for this project, I created the identifier, look and feel for the campaign, then oversaw the photography and rollout of the campaign. Worked closely with a Haemata, Māori consultancy agency, I visualised how we could represent the te ao Māori themes of Whakapapa, Tūrangawaewae and Whanaungatanga. I oversaw the pre-production of photography and then art directed three photography days in Auckland.

Whakarare
The whakarare pattern is traditionally used to signify change or a change in direction. For this design, I have used it to signify the historic coming together of Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti. A further interpretation of this is the coming together of the past and the future and the importance of one to the other. The pocket created between the two whakarare represents the present.
