"
I’m Abigail Larson, an illustrator who enjoys all things strange and archaic. I’ve teamed up with Spiridon to create this high-quality collector's artbook full of my work from the past several years, with the option to extend the 200 pages of content up to 32 more pages including early work and sketches showing some insight into my process. If dark, romantic fantasy illustrations are something you love, I’m sure you’ll want to add this book to your collection!"

I was commissioned to create logotype, book cover and font design for this project and Kickstarter campaign. The production of the book was curated by Spiridon Giannakis and it was printed in Éditions Caurette

I'm eager to show the development process and my workflow on this book.

On the very first stages of my work I spent some time studying Abigail's work and during the sketching phase I was trying to copy her line and visual aesthetics in letters. The very first sketches fit perfectly, however, they had too much of the  "Nightmare before Christmas" vibe, so after scraping them I chose a different path.

The display font development process was easy after developing the logotype. The process of making a font was not a necessary process, but it simplified the pipeline of making titles in the book as well as the titles in the Kickstarter campaign.
Making of the book cover was an uneasy task, which involved both my and Abigail's creative work. I've developed composition of the book cover as well as the very first rough variants, but the final artwork was drawn by Abigail. Then I made vectors and adjusted her artwork to fit into the crop factor of the book.

For collectors, we've developed the exclusive Slipcase edition which has two designs by Abigail stamped with hot foil on both sides and the rose on the spine. The materials used are identical to those of the book's cover and together they fit just perfectly on every artbook nerd's shelf.

During the process I've made a lettering sketch in order to tune into the Abigail's style. I've also tried to find a proper way to make the chapter's title look more appealing.
All elements on the book were hotfoil stamped, as well as the first page on the book. Using this printing technique on a black medium always gives eye-catching results. This book has black paper edges which blend perfectly with the black cover and make the book even more valuable.
Design process was finished before the launch of the Kickstarter campaign. However, we didn't have the proofs at that point to show them publicly, so we used renders of the book instead. The final result looked comparable or better than the renders, so much so that most backers were incredibly satisfied with the product they received.
This beautiful book can be purchased on LiberDistri.
Thanks for your attention. <3
