As much as architects have a role to develop safe and habitable buildings, they also must keep in mind the negative space between these structures and how people experience it. To study this exterior space, the two-dimensional and three-dimensional conditions are explored on site with the expressive gesture of sketching.

 

“Architects often employ sketches for conceptual design to discover or attain knowledge, to accompany brainstorming, and to find allusions or associations. The sketch can become the medium to express emotional or poetic concepts” (Shank Smith, 2005)
