I was commissioned by Adobe as part of Adobe Creative Residency 2021 to create a cultural illustration using Adobe Fresco with their new Motion feature. When the commission came, I was in the middle of creating a series of illustration for 100 first Japanese kanji, which suits the theme since kanji is an important aspect of Japanese culture and language.  

So I grouped some kanji by the category and created illustrations to help Japanese learner understand and memorize the kanji presented.

The first set is "Directions 方向" and below is the result in the form of animated GIF

The second set is about "Numbers 数字", note that 6 to 9 is especially unique because putting one hand on top of the other hand is the common hand-gestures to represent numbers in Japan.

And the third set is about "Days on a week 曜日". In Japan, elements are used to name days.

So, there are about 21 kanji introduced in the three illustrations. This is about fifth out of 100 beginner level kanji that I'm going to introduce. Please follow Gengoya's Instagram if you want to tune be updated with more Japanese related posts.
