The Maputo Waterfront initiative is a significant urban regeneration project for Maputo which aims to create jobs, attract investment and introduce, on a phased basis, a fantastic new “urban village” to this important site in downtown Maputo. It is a private sector development that has the potential to transform this part of town into a new, vibrant mixed-use community.
The project is a blend of residential, office, destination retail (mall and high street) and leisure developments that will breathe new life into an area of town that has fallen victim to decline in the past, but is fast becoming a new growth point in the city, with the release of land for development to the north of the site for office and commercial development, as well as the emergence of major new institutional buildings to the west.
Not only will the project bring a massive economic boost to the area and offer more and improved leisure facilities, but it will also help foster a renewed sense of pride among local residents by introducing a truly world class development to this large 8.3 ha site. The project is still at master planning stage and has an anticipated total bulk of approximately 300,000 m2, set over a 2-3 level super basement.
