The challenge for this book cover was to summarize the idea of the book in a single glance. Without reading the book, a viewer can tell with subtext what William Styron’s book, “Sophie’s Choice” is about.
Black and white not only reflects the time period of the book, but also enhances the hierarchy. The use of red is striking, and significant considering color theory. In this context, it holds both its positive and negative connotations, both loving and painful.
