Shallow
60 x 40 cms        Acrylic on Canvas
Starting with a blank canvas and an equally blank mind, I reminisced the visuals of a quiet pond. In hindsight, the calm and the colors of shallow waters inspired this composition and its title. Nature in all its glory is one of the biggest inspirations for artists.

I chose to use acrylic paints, added texture from gesso, a palette knife, and brushes on a stretched canvas to manifest my abstract concept, visualizing the depth of the waters to develop into artwork and express the feeling of serenity. As a painter, this piece reminds me of my carefree, feel-good habitat while painting; as a viewer, the forms of the shadow under the surface of the water resemble movement. The colors explore the reflection of light in the environment, light is a source of inspiration throughout several of my works. Throughout this piece, the indents and raised texture signify the textural irregularities of the water's surface and the depth of the pond's shallows.

Recalling the words of the great master Rembrandt:
"Choose only one master—nature."
