En junio de 2021, presenté al concurso Peru Abarka mi propuesta para un álbum ilustrado basado en el texto de Xabier Paya, ''Bihotza Kate''. El texto narra la decisión que debe tomar Carmen, una joven que se ve dividida entre sus aspiraciones como actriz de teatro o seguir el camino que le marca su familia.
Tomando como punto de partida la idea de mostrar la historia de Carmen como una obra de teatro, reinterpreté a los personajes como actores y los espacios como escenarios. De esta manera pude realizar mi propia interpretación de la historia, sin interferir en el propio texto.
Esta propuesta resultó la ganadora del concurso y durante los siguientes meses, completé las ilustraciones del álbum. Al terminar, la editorial Erein realizó la maquetación del texto y publicó el libro.
In June of 2021, I submited my proposal for a picture book based on the text written by Xabier Paya, ''Bihotza Kate'', to the Peru Abarka contest. The text tells the story of Carmen, a young woman who must choose between her career in theatre or following the path that her family laid for her.
Taking the idea of showing Carmen's story as theatrical play as a starting point, I reinterpreted the characters as actors and the spaces as a stage. This way, I was able to realize my own take of the story without interfering with the text itself.
This proposal won the competition, and in the following months, I completed the illustrations of the book. Once I was done, the publishing house Erein did the text layout and published the book.
