Julian Alaphilippe - Vélo d’Or 2019 {poster design}

2020 — Julian Alaphilippe - Vélo d’Or 2019
Every year since 1992, Vélo Magazine awards Vélo d’Or mondial and Vélo d’Or français trophies. At the end of a 2019 season full of results gained with panache, Julian Alaphilippe is awarded Vélo d’Or mondial and Vélo d’Or français. Enthusiastic about sport and in particular about cycling, I decided to celebrate this by designing a poster.

The idea is to emphasize the three keywords that characterize Julian Alaphilippe and his 2019 season: movement, balance and calm.

In the foreground, the typographic composition presents the puncheur and chronologically lists his results. The center alignment draws a vertical axis that emphasizes the notion of equilibrium and values the constancy and determination developed by Julian Alaphilippe.
In the background, the julian lettering illustrates an athlete always on the move, offensive, instinctive, daring and agile. What’s more, diagonals contrast with the verticality of the foreground.
The empty space between elements echoes to the significant evolution in the champion’s tactics: stay calm to be more effective.
As far as colours are concerned, blue and white refer to team Deceunink-Quick Step’s colours and the golden yellow evokes both the trophy, the maillot jaune worn and defended for fourteen days.
