I decided to make a book about the consequences of the pressure to perform on young people.
Dutch Strawberries
I chose this title because people from our generation are often referred to as “The strawberry generation”. From the outside everything looks colourful and fresh, positive success stories and 350 friends on Facebook. But on the inside they are often under a lot of pressure, too many choices and too many expectations. They have to be treated with extreme caution or they will ‘bruise’, just like strawberries.

This is kind of the lighter undertone in the book, which became quite heavy because of the subject, the pressure is the reason that a lot of people my age are burned-out at home.
The book is divided in 3 phases;

• 3.0 After the Burn-out ( Printed on really thin paper )

I used different kinds of paper depending on the phase, to show the difficulty that a burn-out will bring. At the burn-out phase it should be hard(er) to turn the pages. After the burn-out, people are very fragile, that is why this phase is printed on really thin paper.
With this informative book I want to show that a burn-out should be taken seriously,
in contradiction to what some people think. But most of all, this is a warning to our generation, don’t let the pressure escalate.

Double pages
The book has double pages with pictures on it. The concept behind this is that in most cases, a burn-out can’t be seen from the outside. You have to make an effort to see the pictures on the inside. On these pictures the daily routine when you are experiencing a burn-out are made visible, the “doing the same thing everyday”.

Different texts
In my book both young people and experts on the subject are interviewed, these texts are easy to distinguish. The dry and scientific experts’ texts are set in a tidy grid, creating a rather cold look. I designed the other texts with different leading, depending on the speed of speech, creating an even more personal look and feel.
