Wrike Character Builder

Character Builder

It is a well-known fact that demand for creative assets can become quite costly on the resources side. Under such circumstances, a need for keeping consistency throughout the brand, staying on the top of the clock, and having a healthy night sleep all at the same time becomes tough to manage.

Shortly after the brand refresh, we faced the challenge of not only creating a lot of new illustrations from scratch but also the need to rework a tonne of old assets
from pre-refresh times.

Luckily, here at Wrike, we know that automation is the answer in such circumstances. So the decision to create an automated library for creating characters was created. In this project, we'll try to show you how exactly this saves us a lot of time and hair on while being a pretty simple solution that you are free to use on your own.

Here is how it works!

The anatomical structure was taken as a single starting point for all the characters. Although the proportions may weary a little depending on the pose or angle of the character. Every single illustration was can be divided into three separate parts: head, body, and legs. Later they will be used as single-sized components for the automated process of creating the illustration.

Color wise, we use our amazing hand-picked color pallet that
is used across all our design languages.

The color balance designs are based on the deepness of our user's integration with Wrike. The closer the user to the brand the more color ful and diverse the pallet becomes.

Also, we support diversity in our brand illustrations.
Skin color combinations allow us to create characters of different cultures.

The next big step was to create a Figma library with many body-poses, clothes,
and angles collected as individual single-sized instances.

Also, we were able to utilize an already existing library with backgrounds
and merge them together for even easier use.

As a result, we can create hundreds of amazing and consistent illustrations for all kinds of use-cases.That makes us and our stakeholders very happy!

Also, all of this nicely landed into a small but powerful guide for designers and others who might want to work with this tool to help them dive into it faster and not forget important details about creating illustrations.
