Okeechobee Festival Poster

Design Narrative: This design is a poster for the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, an annual music festival in Sunshine Grove, Florida. For this design, the Froth modular typeface that was previously created is used and paired with the Terfens typeface to give off a chill and relaxing vibe. The background was composed of various different colors and shapes, and the lighter organic shapes mimic designs used in the 70's for festival and concert posters. A warm purple color scheme was chosen to catch the viewer's attention and promote the event while still maintaining readability. The dark text lists the performances that will happen on each day of the festival, with the numerical dates being lighter in order to stand out. The official logo of the event was used in the bottom right corner, along with the event location and website. Along the left side of the poster, the name of the festival is displayed in the Froth modular typeface. This typeface was chosen to promote the event in a fun and organic way.
Design Challenge: The client for this design is the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, who organize the event together every year. The event planners were in need of a design to preview and promote the festival, preferably inclusive of some of the headliners that will be performing at the event. The target audience is the general public, but can be narrowed down to young adults that enjoy live music and immersive experiences. This audience would loosely be aged 18-28, with some outliers on either end. They are middle class and enjoy travelling, partying, art, the outdoors, and/or psychedelic experiences.
Design Solution: Okeechobee includes a wide variety of artists, so by listing multiple bands for each day of the festival, the audience is sure to recognize at least one performer featured on the poster. This way, viewers will be drawn in and compelled to learn more about the event. The Okeechobee Festival features popular modern and psychedelic bands, some of which have logos containing typefaces or designs similar to those used in the design. The Froth modular typeface is used and paired with Terfens typeface variations to compose the text in the design. The Froth typeface was selected for this design because it is fun and organic yet also formal and unique. The background was composed of various different colors and shapes, and the misty light purple text backing mimics some poster designs used in the 70's for festivals and concerts. The purple color scheme was chosen to relay to the audience that this will be a fun and exciting yet laid-back event. The design is eye-catching while not being overly busy or an eye-sore, and the visuals draw viewers in from a distance to come read the text. This is the best means of communicating the message for the Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival because the design itself is very art-oriented, alluding to the art aspect of the festival, while still presenting the musicians that will be performing. It draws inspiration from 70's styles and concert posters, as well as previous poster designs for Okeechobee Festivals.
