A Self Portrait

taken with iPhone 11 Pro, manipulated using Adobe Photoshop.
Taking inspiration from the iconic scene from the film Nosferatu as well as notes from the photography from The Bauhaus, this self portrait uses shadow play to create an interesting composition and focal points away from the face.

The toothless-being's shape has been constructed from paper and placed in front of a torch to create a looming presence in the background. Similar shapes can be found in multiple different pieces I've created in the past, and so feel personal to me and my design style. I interpret this self portrait as a representation of my personal and design identity; with the lighting and composition framing my face as the main focal point of the picture (personal identity) the shadows cast from this lighting/composition combination also lead to a seperate portrait behind me, one of my silhouette and motifs from my design work (design identity).

When manipulating this portrait in Photoshop I made the decision to place a b&w filter over it as a way to replicate the feel and mood of the german expressionistic film and Bauhaus photography that served as its inspiration.
