Krystal Restaurant

Located at the Plaza Roxa in the beating heart of Santiago de Compostela, Krystal is a Spanish Restaurant / Cafeteria with a history of more than 40 years serving locals and tourists of this Galician capital city.
With new management taking over in late 2020, Krystal decided to renew their business from the inside out, whilst maintaining the sense of tradition of a place that has been a point of reference for students, officials, and neighbours in central Santiago.
The challenge was to change the public image of a cafeteria that had suffered a slow decline in acceptance during the last decade. We had several business restraints, which are always great to ground the design proposals: the name of the cafeteria could not be changed, and the timeframe and budget set out for the renovation project were very reduced. Additionally, the new Krystal would have to be a place that welcomes all kinds of audiences: from the official workers of the Xunta de Galicia, the large student community of Santiago, the affluent neighbours of central Santiago, and the adventurous pilgrims and tourists who stray out of the old city walls.
