This project aims to produce a variety of iPhone cases (iPhone 6,7 and 8) using research and development methods as well as Adobe Dimensions. I intend to display my creative skills and designs to my product audience, being iPhone users that are interested in the designer Neville Brody and the typeface ‘Blur’.

This project helps to improve my creative project management and development, a skill that I will need if I continue in the graphic design field. However, the core objective is to advocate the typeface, Blur, to my audience and to present Neville Brody's design as an iPhone case.

                 Resources

I used mostly Adobe applications to design and manipulate all stages of my process. For instance, I used Adobe Illustrator to design a rough 'sketch' of the idea I had, this application worked best to finalise the colour choices and font sizing of my design, it also allowed me to easily create alternative design ideas and compare them side by side. Another application used was Adobe Dimension, which allowed me to gain insight and form a 3D visual mock-up of my final iPhone case and bring the design to life. Using Adobe Applications aid my designing process to be manipulated easier and gave me a realistic vision of where my design was heading.

Not to mention how much of a time-saver these applications were, I found that during the earlier design stage, copying and pasting the iPhone template in illustrator and just changing little details was much faster than manually drawing each iPhone design.

The supplier I chose to work with is Case Station, their cost is $22.50 for one iPhone 8 Flexi Case Clear Frosted with custom design, no bulk billing. However, If I chose to work with express shipping, the cost is $13.75. Additionally, if I subscribe, I can get $5 off my total price.

                     Skills
As mentioned prior, I relied heavily on Adobe Dimension to form a final 3D visual of my iPhone case, though, this application was new to me and a new skill I learnt during this process. I first took my time to navigate through the application, playing around with each tool and the settings. Once I felt confident, I watched the tutorial Intro to Adobe Dimensions- the basics by Caler Edwards to further advance my knowledge and to begin with modelling my design. It took me a few rendering tries to be happy with the final result!

     WH&S and Sustainability

A health and safety issue with the production of my project is the risk of causing pain or damage to my spine while sitting in front of the laptop for extended periods of time while designing and using software for production. As a solution, I took frequent breaks from the computer and stretched before a computer session.

A small but effective sustainability consideration I had thought to follow throughout my design was to re-use paper from my home recycling bin when sketching my designs. Instead, I sketched all of my designs on my laptop using my Wacom tablet and limited the use of paper altogether, this acts as a more effective sustainability consideration.
                   Reflection
My production process went very smoothly! Overall, I am happy with my design progress and the outcome, I believe that my final design meets my brief and attracts the audience successfully. While using only the Adobe Illustrator and Dimension, my iPhone case design process has been a success with no issues. I am also proud to have stuck to my sustainability resolution and limited the use of paper to 0.
