OUR FADING LOOMS
CRAFT DOCUMENTATION

Our Country,
Our Handloom,
Our Tradition.

Weaving is one of the ancient indian practices. An ancient formula of making a thread turn into a cloth. Acknowledged as one of the oldest surviving crafts in the world. The tradition of weaving traces back to neolithic times.  Through the ages, Indian handlooms have fascinated the world. The beauty of these products and the skills required to make these products are unique.

Chendamangalam - a small town in North Paravur that hosts the handloom weaving is known for their excellent quality, every product stands testament to the dexterity of the Chendamangalam weavers from Ernakulam. Situated just 40km away from the commotion of Kochi city, this village of weavers is an enclave of unadulterated, near pristine beauty and quietude, dense with the remnants of a rich heritage that dates back almost to the beginnings of Kerala’s history.   Our area of research is Chendamangalam Handloom, North Paravur, Kerala.
