Many endeavors take us on a rollercoaster of emotions and thoughts.

This series began as a response to our personal homeschooling journey. It was totally uncharted territory, beginning with confusion (I have no idea how to do this). A plethora of other things came up during the process, including: frustration (This is so hard!!), disappointment (Oh gosh we're so bad at this), exasperation (ERRRRGH).

And then we take a break, during which we pause, look back, and realise how much we have learned and grown. Maybe we will find some insights or images we didn't see before. We see beauty in what we once crumpled up and considered a failure. After a sigh of relief, we start the process over with the next step or maybe a new project... a constant cycle of inspiration, bewilderment, frustration, exasperation, reflection.

Confusion, Frustration, Disappointment, Exasperation, and Reflection are my entries for the first States of Cadence exhibit, hosted by Grounded ✨
States of Cadence is a group exhibition by artists from the Grounded Artist Network (GAN) which aims to showcase works that draw inspiration from their world view, personal history, present day experience, and predictions for what’s to come.

The two-part series will feature the artists' minor works this September 2021, and their major works shall be released in December of the same year. With Oceanus Conservation as the official partner organization and beneficiary, the proceeds shall help provide enough support for the non-profit organization's efforts in conservation and restoration of our blue carbon habitats in the country such as coral reefs and mangroves, as well as aid in support for their marine environmental education for coastal communities.

GAN by Grounded is a network and community of artistic individuals from various creative subcultures that supports, encourages and advocates for grassroots and emerging artists. Our hope is to be able to provide a holistic experience.

Watch the video below for a short interview with Marika Manglapus-Ledesma, co-founder of Grounded and one of the exhibit organisers.

The show has also been featured on Lifestyle Asia, Manila Bulletin, L'Officiel, and Metro Style.
