Hewlett Packard Labs - Gesture Keyboard Packaging

Hewlett Packard Labs - India.
The project involved the design of packaging and communication collateral for the award winning ‘Gesture Keyboard’ (GKB) which was HP Labs’ first product to be launched in India. The GKB was designed to enable Indians to type in their native languages, and we observed several focus groups using the product during the testing phase and understood the needs of the target consumer.

The packaging had to allow a high degree of mobility while accommodating a product manual and a CD in addition to the product.

Apart from the design and development of the packaging, I also managed the project budget, vendor bidding process, vendor negotiations and the production process.
Concept Generation
After rigorous brainstorming we identified ten possibleconcepts. I then prepared a matrix toevaluate each of these concepts on various criteria based on the specificationswe had defined. This was a relatively new approach as it was rare fordesign concepts to be evaluated in a tangible, quantitative manner.
Prototypes were developed and tested for the top three conceptsand the results were presented to different stakeholders from engineers andmarketing heads to board members for their approval and feedback. I constantlyadvocated taking a structured approach and carefully documented the process wewere following.
