And the Oscar goes to...

A response to a large data set dealing with a contemporary global issue (1929 - 2020).

The lack of diversity at the Oscars has been an on-going issue in recent years. Through gathering data from The Academy’s own database, the overwhelming number of white nominations, compared to those of minorities, for Best Actor over the award’s 92 year history (at the time) were shocking; as were the nominations for the other categories. The infographic creates a juxtaposition of glamour and elegance of the Oscars, against the stark bias of white actors nominated in the award’s 92 year (at the time) history.*

*The Academy have now implemented an Equity and Inclusion initiative, so they - the cast and crew - have to have diversity and representation on and off camera, to be eligible to be nominated. The nominations for 2021 were the most diverse yet, which was a huge step forward.
