Product Design - The Shelter

The Shelter’s structure is a functional kitchen, in which each part of it is a module with a specific function that may vary from storing foods and wares to heating food and washing plates. The modules are held by a structure that also powers them via induction, and they can be accessed from both inside and outside the Shelter’s structure, and their standard disposition makes cooking easier. Having dining and cooking sharing such a small place opens more space for a home office in small apartments, besides creating an area for eating and resting that separates the users from their everyday life. Inside, the lighting and ambient sounds can be adjusted for turning the moments within the Shelter into unique experiences.
The different kinds of modules
- Shelter’s main point is the creation of an environment safe and interactive where people of the most diverse ages would share their free time and get to know better each other. This moment is a contemporary need, and what improves this experience isn’t just the shape of the structure, but specifically the way the modules work. They are intuitive and touch oriented, have icons that represent their function, can be named and can be locked so any module with dangerous contents or function will stay away from the hands of children, and they are all visible at once from the Shelter’s inside. The module kinds are Storing, Freezing, Heating, Washing & Keeping and Garbage Disposal.

 - Inside, there is enough space for circulation around the benches and table and the doors are good for connecting the inside with the outside, enough to not make the ambient claustrophobic. In the middle of the table, there is the Mood Sphere, which let the users choose the color of the lighting and even patterns and images with a single tap. For those who get unsure about which color will bring in the right mood, there are preprogrammed options to choose from. The benches and table can be lifted or left on the floor level, so the table without the benches could be used as a cooking island or both on floor to make the Shelter look as a different room with better circulation when the kitchen is not being used.

  - With all the food visible and at hand, it would be harder to leave already spoiled food in the freezing modules rather than in a conventional fridge, add the good mood of the cook while preparing within the Shelter and there will be a better quality in the food prepared. It also would make the consumer’s house an interesting place for meetings and parties, therefore making the ties with family and friends stronger.

So we get to the main point of the Shelter: bring people together and have a good time that no one will forget. It brings the ambient one would desire to find in a party or in a restaurant to their homes, making the place even more pleasant to be, and more lively than a normal kitchen.
