Evocation : A series of plays

Evocation : A series of plays
Brief

This project was created through a brief from a second-year core paper at Massey University, Wellington. In partners, we are asked to create a storyline and rhetorical visuals for a series of plays based on three songs written by Warren Maxwell. Three touchpoints need to be designed to reach various users and involve multiple platforms for informing and advertising.

For our project, we created a poster, website and animation for a digital platform.
The concept for our project is based on evocation. Evocation is about appreciating the small things in life and reconnecting to happy memories that adults forget in their busy day-to-day lives. Warren Maxwell inspired our themes of evocation and nature because our interpretation of his songs recalled memories from the past and the beauty of nature that is slipping through our fingers. We contrasted an artificial environment with a natural environment to show how humans trap themselves in concrete prisons and mundane lives. The storyline is about life experiences that impact individual growth and opens up the human mind. The purpose of our project is to make adults reflect on themselves and appreciate their surroundings. The style we used was rough sketchy illustrations with watercolour to create a soft and delicate appearance. We wanted it to be airy and floaty to make it appear like a distant memory. We used a yellow background to represent a warm, comforting atmosphere compared to the blue background, which represented the dullness and coldness of city life. Our target audience is adults over the age of 20 because as humans mature, they forget to appreciate things, and the point of our plays is to reconnect people with nature and the importance of life. We used Facebook as a platform to grab our audience's attention since it's a popular app to use.
