After the death of Kobe Bryant, I felt inspired to create something in his legacy. At the time, I was taking a graphic design course in pursuit of my Studio Arts minor. We were instructed to create a portrait in Corel Painter. Naturally, I chose someone who inspired me as an athlete, with his dedication and hard work. Having been an athlete since the age of four, and competing at the NCAA Division 1 level in college, Kobe Bryant has been someone I have always looked up to. He was one to make sure that no one out worked him. He showed up early to practices and left later than everyone else. As a swimmer and water polo player, I did the same, eventually earning myself a spot on LMU Men's Water Polo team. Kobe is someone that was a light in the darkness for many people, showing people young and old that anything can be accomplished through hard work and dedication. I simply hope to honor his legacy with this abstract portrait of the legend himself.
