Book Design
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

Picking up on the theme of isolation in the book Metamorphosis, the overall design was held together by a three-layered laser cut cover that spells out the title only by viewing the paper as it is stacked on top of each other. In isolation our meaning and purpose is often challenged, if not greatly reduced, and the concept intended to emphasise that feeling.
The interior layout of the book adds to the sense of being overwhelmed and alienated by using an increasing amount of white space on the right-hand pages with every turn of a page. The columns become narrower the further that you read.
The overall look and feel encapsulates the radical approach of the de Stijl movement which would have been influential on the author Franz Kafka at the time he wrote this classic piece of literature.
