Cosmic Courier: Trapped In Limbo

In February of 2021, I participated in the 2nd Goblin Bunker Game Jam. Together with three others, we created a short, lock-and-key style game playable on the Nintendo Gameboy in 48 hours. During the game jam, i focused my energy on the art; bringing each character to life. After the jam, i took another week to continue polishing art and adding new assets as well has fixing bugs in the code, testing, and editing the script.
The game is a lock-and-key style adventure. The player controls a delivery man in the far future trying to deliver a package to someone in a company where no one seems to be communicating with each other very well. It's the player's job to gain enough clues from the employees to work out who exactly ordered it... or not!
Development
We quickly decided our roles and got to work. We came up with the scenario and got to work on each of our parts. I had already been working on talking portraits in GB Studio so that set up our programmer to get a going quickly on the knowledge system. An outline of each character was developed and i got started sketching each one in Procreate, and then doing the actual game art in Photoshop: portraits and sprites. The gameboy screen has a resolution of 160×144px. Since i decided to go for the original black and white, the art was limited to 4 colors which was a challenge but kept the scope small making production within the time limit much easier.
