Conceptual Art: Myself

This was my first IB Visual Art project, were we where given the topic 'About Yourself' with the aim to introduce everything about ourselves (hobbies, favourite activities, likes/dislikes,etc).

Initially, my teacher suggested me the idea of using lights coming from inside to attract the attention of the audience. The idea of making a black box immediately came into my mind, inspired from children's doll houses. In order to make my work highly personal, I have decided to make a mask from my face.
However, I expected the mask to look like my face, so that the audience can recognize that it's me. But due to the to thick layers of plaster, it was difficult to get my facial characteristics.
On the outside, the box is covered with plain black paper and on the inside it is covered with shiny and flashing plastic paper.
This is a concept that I came up with to deliver the following message: on the outside I may look plain, normal and unattractive (represented by plain black paper), but on the inside I am an active person with many interesting hobbies (shiny paper with lights).
The idea of using light is used to attract the audience to explore about who I am as a person.
Inside the box there are several photographs of things that I love and appreciate.
The mobile phone and headphones shows that I am a tech-addict.
The guitar shows that I am a music lover and I love to play guitar.
On the left is my puppy - Misa that has been living with me 10+ years.
Far behind are some of my favourite books.
The left photo far behind is my passion for dancing which I performed in a dancing show, it was the best show ever.
