Indian Norwegian Textile Designer Blurs the Line between Fashion and Art- Helena Bajaj Larsen.
A product of three cultures, France, India and Norway, she is a global designer in more ways than one.
The fabrics for her collection are sourced from Khadi shops around India and hand-painted using acid and pigment dyes on a variety of silks and other materials.
Being a travel lover she finds inspiration in each and every glimpse she captures. Each piece is one-of-a-kind as the print is 100 percent manually done, using acid and pigment textile dyes and a range of different tools allowing for a variety of surface applications.
INITIAL PRINT EXPLORATIONS
Given the opportunity to travel, what has always fascinated me is the ocean and its view. I have always had vivid thoughts about its beauty and how its nature connects our lives. And few places which I have always wanted to travel to because of its stunning view is what has inspired me to come forward with the collection-
TEMPESTUOUS TURQUOISE
The ocean - on the surface there is almost continual activity and change. Sometimes it is calm, and other times it can be extremely turbulent.
In life, we appear to function like droplets on the surface. We don’t know what’s going to happen from one moment to the next - change seems to be continually occurring. We’re so heavily identified with our individual self, and fixated with the idea that the people around us are separate individuals, that we seem to function like individual droplets. As a consequence of our fixation with the continual change and movement in life we are unaware of the vastness that underlies us.
The dynamics of the design deals with the realms of vastness of the ocean. The texture roars like the tides on a stormy night, the gradient fills it calmly but with volume and the essence of blueish hue bestows inspiration and wisdom.
