Zero Waste Design Project
Exploring Sustainability in Fashion Design
The garments in this look were created by myself and a group of two other members and we came together to create a unique piece that is made only out of a men's button down shirt and a pair of denim jeans. We learned how to effectively recycle and up-cycle fabric to create pieces from two of the most common garments found at thrift stores. I also learned how to collaborate effectively with others not only in dividing design work, but also in planning the design itself.
Final Product
The Skirt
In this group project, after dividing up the work I created this skirt which would go over the dress we made in this look. The entire look was composed of a body con dress, this flare, tennis like skirt that I created, and a bucket hat. I used various scraps to create pleating in the back of the skirt and took in the waistband, practicing taking in clothes to fit the body.
Initial Sketches
The following sketches represent my various ideas that came to mind when tasked with creating clothing out of only a button up shirt and a pair of jeans from the men's section of a thrift store.
